Slow your roll

As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him.
                                                                      Luke 10:38

Ladies, you've probably heard this term before. 'Sometimes you feel more like a Martha then a Mary.' Who are you feeling like now?

                                                     I can't stop!!!
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lords feet listening to what He had to say. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that  had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
                                      Luke 10:39-40

Last week I was a Martha. I was running from place to place. working on my graphic novel, writing letters to friends, cooking, baking etc. Like I just told a friend,  "I almost can't remember what I did last week!" I know a lot of you had those days, weeks or even months. Your life is just on the fast track and you want to find the button to make it stop! Or just slow down. We run ourselves down physically, spiritually and mentally. Is that okay? Is it necessary?
"Martha, Martha," The Lord answered. "You are worried and upset about many things,..."
                  Luke 10:41

A couple years ago a movie called 'I Don't know how she does it." came out. My mom, sister and I were flying back home from visiting my grandparents. My mom and I wanted to watch one of the movies that was on the plane. That was an option. We laughed so hard. It portrayed the mind of a woman so well. One scene is she's laying awake in bed and she begins to make a list in her mind of all the things she has to do for the next coming day or week. We're all like that. Married or not we all have multi-tasking crazy computer minds! We can think of so many things and do so many things at the same time.
Martha was most likely the exact same way we are. The only difference was technology did not exist and things were more quite and ...slow? Maybe things were fast in their own way during their time. In Luke 10:39-42 we see that Martha was focused on having everything ready. She had tunnel vision for being a good hostess. As Jesus said to Martha, "You are worried and upset about many things." So are we as well.

"... But only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
                                Luke 10:42

How many times have we complained to God; "So and so isn't doing as much as I do for you! And she seems so much more at peace, or not so stressed out or she seems to know more about you then I do."
Jesus quietly says our name and smiles. Then He tells us to slow down. Take a deep breath. Sit with me for awhile. Lets talk.

What have you been focused on? Do you need to slow down more? Refocus and sit at the feet of Jesus.
