Are you sure?

God said to Moses, "I Am Who I Am. This is what you are to say to the Israelite's: 'I Am has sent me to you.' "
                                                     Exodus 3:14

New year, new life! That's what we pretty much think and say. We make a list of what we want to do this year and what we don't want to do. If you ask me, that's a little ridiculous.  How can we plan our whole year or claim the year (like what Lucy did in the 'Peanuts' comic strip) as ours. How can we possibly know what this year, let alone the days and hours to come, would hold.

                                                 The Problem
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
                                                                                                                      Jeremiah 17:9

The problem is not in the Government (even though there are a lot of problems there), it's not in politics, nor is it in your school's faculty. No, it's within each and everyone of our own hearts. We think we're invincible. Some of us actually believe that we're gods!! We think we're so smart. That we know how to take care of ourselves, our animals and our planet.

What I think is so interesting is we pick and choose what we want to believe and not believe. There are so many religions to pick and choose from like candy. Some even mix and match, stacking it on the plate of their life with what sounds good.

Here's one thing I was thinking about yesterday morning. What if   reincarnation was real.  If it was, would you really want to be reborn into this world? Already having a taste of the pains, failures, heartache and loss. Would you really want to come back as an animal? Or worse...a human being. Living a different life with different problems and sorrows. No thank you!!

                          Cosmic power!

For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through Him and for Him.
                        Colossians 1:16

What of we were demi-gods? What if God came down and forced Himself on women and had many offspring. There would be so much hatred by women who were violated by such a cruel God. Thoughts of revenge and wanting to avenge wives, sisters, mothers and daughters. Then to layer that with half gods walking among us. Talk about ultimate bullying. No normal human would be able to stand up against these people. And what if God did nothing? What kind of world would that be?

There are so many different scenarios and perspectives we could explore about what life could be like. Ugh, that would probably take up a year's worth of blogging to cover that! But think about it.

There is in fact a God. The good thing is He is love!  He doesn't want us to just live our lives in any old way and believe in just anything. He wants our lives to be intertwined with His and for us to acknowledge His existence! But there is some bad news. We can't. It's impossible. You know when I talked about there being something wrong with our hearts? Well, that's called sin. And that sin is wicked, and evil. It's inside of us like a leeching cancer. Since the sin is there from birth we don't realize that it's not good. We want our own way and hate it that we have to listen to this God. God actually is heartbroken for us. One day we have to be judged like a guilty convict because of our sin. We will have to face the wrath of God. We cannot stand under it because His law has to be followed to the "T" (Deuteronomy 5:6-21) . And we can't do that. It's impossible!! God is perfect, pure and Holy it's impossible for Him to come near us. Or else He wouldn't be Holy anymore! He would not be God. What's the solution? Jesus Christ. The Son of God. He came down to earth to save us from our sin. His death on the cross defeated sin. His blood can make us new. And when He rose again on the third day He defeated death. If you accept Jesus' free gift of life God dismisses your case and welcomes you in His presence with open arms and tears of joy.
Since it's the beginning of the year, do you want to start off doing your own thing? Planning your life?  Living your way? Or, do you want to submit your life to Christ. Being free from the binds of death? To live your life for God in freedom and peace?
