The verse today comes from 1 Kings 12:8,
Rehobiam rejected the advice of the elders and instead asked the opinion of the young men who had grown up with him and who were now his advisers.
We think that if we ask our friends for advice it's exactly the same as asking our parents, right? Our friends have their own opinions and experience. That's where we get it all wrong.
As a young woman I know I don't know as much as my parents or the adults their age or older. They have gone through so much more then me and they know more about this world then me because they lived in it longer! So, when someone older then us (like our parents or grandparents) gives us advice, instead of angrily screaming " I know!" and throwing a tantrum. Let's listen to them and consider their words with much consideration.
